Disaster Relief

In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey (now Tropical Storm Harvey), here are some organizations providing relief efforts.

American Red Cross
Donations can be made directly on the website redcross.com or you can also call 1-800-REDCROSS or text HARVEY to 90999 to make a minimum donation of $10.00.

It’s also seeking blood donations.

Apple iTunes
iTunes has teamed up with the Red Cross to accept donations via a link available on the iTunes online store. You can donate in increments of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or $200. Store credit can’t be used.

Texas Diaper Bank
Many people do not realize that diapers are not provided by disaster relief. The Texas Diaper Bank is looking for donations of both cash and diapers in order to provide emergency diaper relief kits for families displaced by the storm. You can find out more at texasdiaperbank.org.

Salvation Army
Donated dollars are spent to support the organization’s disaster teams, which help with both relief efforts and clean-up. Click HERE to make a donation.

Austin Pets Alive!
Many pets have become lost or simply abandoned in the wake of this tragedy. Additionally, animal shelters need to be evacuated. Austin Pets Alive! is currently transporting pets out of shelters in affected areas. As of Saturday, Aug. 26, APA had transported over 235 animals into their shelters. Click HERE to find out more.

While disasters like this bring out the best in people, it can also bring out the worst. Con artists often take advantage of disasters to trick people out of their money. Before you donated anything to any organizations, it is recommended that you do research on the organization first and see what their history is and how much of your donation is used for relief efforts.
